In aiding parents, in religious instruction for their children, our program is based on four key doctrines: God, man, Christ Our Lord and union. Of course the key to their understanding, as to the understanding of all religion, is the concept of spirit.
In our program, we use the very orthodox Faith and Life Series, published by Ignatius Press for first through seventh grades. Scripture is covered in the eighth grade using Dr. Scott Hahn’s book, Understanding the Scriptures. In the ninth grade we spend a year studying, Pope John Paul II’s integrated vision of the human person – body, soul, and spirit in The Theology of the Body. The 10th grade is another exciting year spent teaching the students how to defend their faith through a yearlong apologetics class using Amy Welborn’s book Prove It! Church. Last year in the 11th & 12th grades we presented Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith by Father Robert Barron.
The Cathedral’s Religious Formation Program for children includes children from Kindergarten (age 5) through high school. Children must be registered (with payment) to attend classes.
